Upgrading & Salvage

Two ways to spend refinement stones and motes: push an item up a rarity tier, or break it down for materials.

!upgrade

Raises an item one rarity tier and increases its stat bonus. Aliased to !ug.

!upgrade [item name] !ug [item name]

The item must be unequipped. Partial names work — the first match in your unequipped inventory is used.

Costs and failure chance

UpgradeGoldStonesMotesFail chanceStat bonus
Common → Uncommon1002000%+1
Uncommon → Rare3006000%+2
Rare → Epic900180510%+2
Epic → Legendary2,7005401525%+3
Legendary → Mythic8,1001,6204540%+4

Materials are deducted before the roll, so a failed upgrade costs you the full price either way. The first two tiers cannot fail.

When an upgrade fails

Failure rolls again to decide how badly:

ResultChance of a failureEffect
Material loss60%Materials gone, item unharmed
Stat damage25%Materials gone, stat bonus reduced by 1
Destroyed15%Materials gone, item destroyed

In practice that puts the odds of losing the item outright at 1.5% for a Rare upgrade, 3.75% for an Epic, and 6% for a Legendary attempt.

Mythic is the ceiling. Mythic items cannot be upgraded further.

Cursed items

Cursed items cannot be upgraded. Attempting it costs 10% of your gold. Remove the curse at a !shrine first.

!salvage

Destroys an unequipped item and returns refinement stones, plus motes at rare and above. Aliased to !sv.

!salvage [item name] !sv [item name]

Salvaging is permanent and there is no confirmation step. Cursed items cannot be salvaged until the curse is removed.

Worth knowing

Salvage returns are well below upgrade costs at every tier, so upgrading an item you found beats upgrading one you built up from salvage. Salvage is for clearing out gear you will never equip, not as a materials engine.

See Refinement Stones & Motes for how to earn materials.
